Frequently Asked Questions - HURRICANE & TORNADO

  1. Is there a difference?
  2. What good does a Disaster Recovery Plan do?

Is there a difference?

Yes... and no...

They both go in circles, creating extremely high wind speeds and destruction.

The main difference is their size.  A Tornado (or Twister) is usually 5 miles or less at the funnel's end, where it contacts earth.  A Hurricane can be upwards of 100 miles and sometimes over 500 miles across.

Another difference is that the Tornado skips along, making contact with earth for a few miles, then lifting up for a while, then contacting earth again.  This can be a short as 5 miles or 50 miles.  A Hurricane is rarely less than 500 miles in length and always touches the earth.

What they have in common are that they both wreak tremendous havoc in their path.

There are 100s of Tornados every year and 10s of Hurricanes.

What good does a Disaster Recovery Plan do?
(When there is nothing to recover...)

Surprisingly, a lot.

First, you do have to make sure that your plan does not get destroyed in order to use it.

Second, your plan will guide you through all the thought processes you need to do to get things going again.  When the panic of the emergency meets your reasoning power, things just don't seem to run smoothly.  Many decisions are made in haste... for the moment... not in contemplation of how they will work next week... next month... next year.

Your well thought out Disaster Recovery Plan will have been completed in normal times, when all the possibilities can be well thought out and logical, rational decisions decided.  When the time comes that you need the plan, you can rest assured that all you have to do is: "follow the cookbook and dinner will be perfect".

One of the decisions that will already have been made in the Disaster Recovery Plan is to invoke the Business Continuation Plan.  This plan will be equally prepared and will have your company running again (maybe not 100% smoothly) in short order... and together, both plans will have made all the decisions on rebuilding.. how, who, what, where, when, will there be changes... new or different manufacturing equipment.  All lined out, drawn up, purchase orders ready to go (fill in the blanks)... your company will act as if no accident, catastrophe or disaster ever happened. It will look like you had this disaster planned all the time.  You did!  In your Disaster Recovery Plan and Business Continuation Plan.

Call us now to begin your plan - then you can rest easy knowing that it is all done... in advance... just in case.
